Apple has moved on to its second developer beta of macOS Big Sur 11.2, providing testers with a new version of the Mac operating system for testing.
The newest builds can be downloaded via the Apple Developer Center for those enrolled into the test program, or via an over-the-air update on devices running the beta software. Public betas typically arrive within a few days of the developer versions, via the Apple Beta Software Program website.
Apple issued the first developer beta for macOS 11.2 on December 16, after releasing macOS 11.1 to the public on December 14. The first public beta for macOS 11.2 was released on December 17.
It is largely unclear what changes are being made in the beta, but it is thought to consist of bug fixes, performance improvements, and other compatibility changes to assist with the migration over to Apple Silicon.
AppleInsider, and Apple itself, strongly suggest users avoid installing betas on to ’mission-critical’ or primary devices, due to the potential for data loss or other issues. It is instead recommended to install betas onto secondary or non-essential devices, and to ensure there are sufficient backups of important data beforehand. Big Sur Macos Features
